Recently there were numerous debates on the pedophiliac genius Nur Fitri... and he previously studied in a school in Teluk Intan. What really sparks the public anger is the issue of MARA's public statement on continue support his intellectual education and the truanting kid news.
2nd Chance for the Ex-Convict
Where's my stand? He got his 5 years imprisonment for his crime. Yes, i understand that we should not discriminate those criminals who had served their punishment. The main issue is, he is not just a criminal! He clearly has a mental problem which is something that won't go away by merely 5 years in prison.
Mental illness is not something which can be healed by some magic wand. Take an example of the Germanwings co-pilot case. An ex-patient have high risk of continuous offence. Back to Nur Fitri, his mental health should be the priority, not the academic achievements.
Building Public Conscience
I'm not an expert in public policy making or involved in any political group. I am, for sure, one little part of the general public. And I do feel a bit misunderstood by MARA's decision to give Nur Fitri an opportunity to continue his education in their institution.
BUT...
As I've typed above, every ex-patient, or ex-convict deserves a second chance PROVIDED THAT, they will be closely monitored for thier mental state.
BUT...
If he is to be given second chance, the general public felt insecure. Especially when this person were to be put among students who could be less superior than him academically. Within a class room, where he could have perform extraordinary good, that creates a potential that he could become a role model of his peers. Which is something really dangerous that it give a wrong messege to the public.
The other mistake that MARA had made, is to disclose where Nur Fitri could be to continue his normal life after the punishment! Where he was known by his peer that he is an ex-convict, he will face all the social pressures within the community.
Besides, It is TOO EARLY to conclude or decide anything for his future while he haven't even serviced his punishment over a year. Such statement stirs public anger, and it harms Nur Fitri himself! If I am in the position of MARA, I will just terminate the support and then keep quiet! All those traunting kid statements will just irritate the public.
In such case, after serving the punishment, Nur Fitri should be given opportunity in an undisclosed institution, where he is an unknown person and with the environment where academic performance is confidential. At the same time, his mental state should be closely monitored. He has to work his own way up to pay back all his education and continue to serve charity for children indirectly. The best way, in my POV, is to deduct 10% of his salary or business income to such charity for all of his lifetime. He shall not involve himself in career related to children.
Hammer hammer... :P
